Honoring Oscar

Oscar de la Renta: The Legend

On October 20th the world lost one of the greatest designers and fashion icons of all time. Those who live in the "fashion bubble" and those who just observe it from a far, all showed their eternal love for Oscar de la Renta via social media.  It seemed only fitting that I'd have a post honoring "The King of Evening" and his great contribution to the world.

A Brief History:

Oscar de la Renta was born on July 22, 1932 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. At the age of 18, Oscar left his home in the Caribbean to study painting at the Academy of San Fernando in Madrid, but soon switched his interest to fashion. His renowned painting skills and eye for fashion landed him an apprenticeship with another huge icon, Cristobal Balenciaga. Then in 1961, while on vacation in Paris, Oscar de la Renta was hired by Lanvin-Castillo. Things seemed to take off from there! Two years later, he moved to New York and joined American design house of Elizabeth Arden. With a firm foot in the fashion industry, Oscar de la Renta started his signature ready-to-wear collection in 1965. In his lifetime, Oscar de la Renta dressed countless celebrities, fashion icons, and first ladies. He was the true definition of elegance, and continues to be an inspiration to all. He will be forever missed.

Loved Among Celebrities:

Many celebrities loved to wear Oscar's designs to things like the Met Gala and other award shows. Always a crowd favorite and one of the easiest ways of landing on the best dressed list was to show up in one of his signature designs.
