Who Knew Sports Could be so Fashionable

A Huge Win for Fashion

I've never been one to care (or even pretend to care) about March Madness. It's not that I have a particular bone to pick with basketball, I've just never been interested in watching despite growing up in a house where sports took precedence over anything I wanted to watch. It just so happened that this year I was in Texas visiting family during the annual tournament and found myself trying to tune out the noise while my family cheered on their favorite teams. Just by virtue of being in a house where it was guaranteed to be on every day of the tournament, I eventually caught a glimpse of something that made me actually stop and tuned into the game.

What was this spectacle that caught my attention? A petite woman among the towering LSU women's basketball team shouting and stalking up and down the court wearing a flower and checker print jacket adorned with hot pink feathers. Exuberant fashion statements aren't something I ever expected to see during a basketball game. Maybe at the post-game press conferences, but it seemed that such a stand out outfit from a coach during the game was a rarity.

Kim Mulkey, who is the current head coach of the LSU women's basketball team (previously the Baylor head coach for 21 seasons) is known for her expressive face, her passion for the game and her eye-popping outfits. Mulkey dazzled in a variety of pattered, polka dotted, feathered and sparkling outfits over the last few years but especially during the tail end of this year's March Madness.

Kim went all out for the championship game at American Airlines Center in Dallas. She dressed in a head-to-toe sequined gold tiger stripped suit from one of her go-to brands, Queen of Sparkles.

The brand is the brain child of LSU graduate, Jaime Glas who found herself disappointed with the selection of pantsuits available at the time, so she decided to start designing her own.

Kim Mulkey's unique take on game day fashion has gotten her tons of good and bad press along the way. She's given interviews from her closet; her players have been a part of social media polls on her looks and LSU's mascot has even paid homage to her in a matching feathered ensemble. For Kim, her biggest focus is on the game and her team, but she feels that it never hurts to add a little sparkle to her day-to-day life.

Vivre dans le luxe,
Jordin
