Anchorage, Alaska: The Marx Bros Cafe

The Marx Bros Cafe

Anchorage, Alaska is a place filled with more quaint and charming local restaurants than you could hope to visit in a single trip. On almost every street, you could spot a handful of these gems crowded with both visitors and locals hoping to get a table so they could unwind with a glass of wine (or beer) and tuck into a delectable dinner.

When we first got to Anchorage, we were lucky enough to sit next to a lovely local woman who struck up a conversation. She was sweet enough to provide a list of all her favorite restaurants in town and share her preferred dishes to feast on at each. One of the "must go to" places she listed was The Marx Bros Cafe

It's a spot so easy to miss that we actually passed it a number of times without realizing it was there. The restaurant sits in one of the oldest houses in Anchorage. It's a tiny, blue-grey house with the most gorgeous blush pink peonies next to the porch.

While the outside looks quite homey, once you step through the front door, you find yourself immersed into a light, elegant space filled with crisp white linens and the low rumble of chatter and glasses clinking in cheers.

We dined on a lush Caesar salad that was prepared table side with creamy house made dressing, followed by fresh, delectable raw oysters with a twist. The Marx Bros Cafe is known around town for topping their oysters with a scoop of pepper vodka ginger sorbet.

Of course, we couldn't pass up the chance to sample their Neapolitan Seafood Mouse which was topped off with caviar.

This combination of smoked salmon, smoked halibut and Maine lobster was served alongside crisp pieces of brioche toast.

Dinner was wrapped up with a few chilled glasses of Prosecco and a sweet warm berry crisp served with butter pecan ice cream. It was so heavenly that I didn't get to snap a photo before everyone dove in.

If you get the opportunity to visit Anchorage, don't pass up the chance to spend an hour or two dining at The Marx Bros Cafe!
