Did Anthropologie's Website Have a Major Malfunction?

You Will Not Believe How Much this Anthro Item Costs!

Picture this: It's Sunday night and you are in bed scrolling through Instagram stories while you carelessly let the time you should be preparing for the week slip away. Suddenly, you come across the story of your favorite TV show actress (read: Elizabeth Gillies from Dynasty). She has posted a screen shot of the most gorgeous mirror from Anthropologie.

You study the faux antique frame, notice the petite vase of flowers sitting prettily on the built-in shelf and imagine where it would look best in your own apartment. Just when you are about to move on to the next story, you notice the price.

"NO WAY," you think as you scramble to pull up the sale page on the retailer's site, where you realize that your eyes did not deceive you. The mirror is on sale for $4.95.

This was the scene that played out in my Manhattan Matchbox (aka my apartment).

How could it be?! Anthropologie is the store where you go to splurge as soon as payday rolls around, even as you accept the fact that you'll be eating ramen until your next check. Or, when you see something you can't afford, you ask your rich aunt to buy it for your birthday.

And now before my eyes is a fine piece of Anthro decor originally priced at $228 and marked down to a measly $4.95?! Unheard of!

It gets better! After spending the next minute or two reading the mirror's description and verifying measurements, thinking surely it was a miniature shot to look bigger, I realized, this is the real deal. I slammed on the "add to cart" button and almost passed out at what I saw...the price dropped from $4.95 to $2.97.

I instantly went back a page and tried to add five more to my cart, but it would only let me select one. "Fine!" I thought, "I'll just go back and buy more once I place this order." Of course, things were too good to be true, as by the time I entered in my card information and hit "order," giant red letters flashed across the screen screaming "SOLD OUT."

While I was obviously bummed about not getting one of these magic mirrors, I could not stop wondering how the rather pricey piece ended up costing some lucky buyers just a few dollars? It seemed so completely out of character for the upscale brand and the only conclusion I could come up with was a rather fortune (for some) website error.

Any thoughts on what might have happened here? Were you one of the lucky shoppers to get your hands on one? Let me know in the comments below!
